Ruby Matilda is now approved as a variety under the Pink Lady® brand.
Following extensive evaluation and assessment to ensure it meets the Pink Lady® brand’s high standard, Ruby Matilda joins the ranks with Cripps Pink, Rosy Glow and Lady in Red as an approved variety under the brand.
Ruby Matilda, formerly known as ‘Matilda’ in Japan and ‘Ruby Pink’ in other markets, is a high-colour, late-season, limb sport Cripps Pink mutation discovered in Victoria, Australia.
Key opportunity markets for Ruby Matilda include the USA, South Africa, China and Argentina. There are also significant development opportunities for Ruby Matilda including the domestic growing and supply of high-quality Pink Lady® branded apples for local consumption in Japan.

All fruit that meets the quality specification of the Ruby Matilda variety must be sold exclusively under the Pink Lady® trademark through licensed network partners, except for in Australia. Fruit Varieties International of Tasmania, Australia will manage the Ruby Matilda variety.
With the expiry of the Cripps Pink PBR in Europe, it’s in the Pink Lady® brand’s best interest to keep high quality Cripps Pink mutations within the Pink Lady® network. Post the expiration of the PBR in Europe, APAL encourages all variety owners and managers with Cripps Pink Mutations that offer demonstrated advantage over existing varieties that are compatible with the Pink Lady® brand, to come forward for consideration.
